EPFC and the Environment
Since the new committee was formed at EPFC in 2022 the club has been working hard to improve its environmental impact. A five year plan was created consisting of a planned stage per year.
Below is a summary update of where we are and still aim to achieve.
Stage 1 - 2022
Assessment of the club's environmental footprint
Stage 1 - 2023
Internal Lighting improvement
Stage 1 was completed in 2023 with financial support from East Preston Parish Council. An assessment was carried out in regard to the type of lighting used in the club followed by a replacement of 90% of the lighting to led based bulbs. Pvr sensors were fitted to two of the area's most suited to them and there is a follow on project to add pvr's to more area's. Currently we are investigating a sponsor to assist in the parts required.
Stage 2 - 2024
Floodlights replacement
The floodlights grant from the Premier Football Fund along with a top up from East Preston Parish Council have been approved. The vendor has been selected, and planning is now underway for the replacement of the floodlights in late spring 2025.
Stage 3 - 2025
Rainwater collection and reusable
Stage 3 is currently at the review stage. Epfc have been informed by southern water that they are raising rates by 45% in 2025 with an estimated additional cost of £2100 per year.
Epfc would like to implement a rain water collection and reuse facility for the largest water usage, this being the pitch. The initial project is likely to cost approximately £3,000 for which there is currently no sponsor, grant or own funds.
Stage 4 - 2026
Solar Energy
Epfc have been in discussion with East Preston Parish Council since early 2024 regarding a solar energy programme within the local area which would allow for grant funding towards solar panels. This could be of great interest to the club and are waiting to see how this potential programme goes.
I would like to say how grateful we are to East Preston Parish Council for their commitment to helping community clubs reduce their carbon footprint and become more environmentally friendly. We couldn't have done any of this without their support.
